Hanford's B Reactor tours still available for summer | News

If you're looking for a good day trip plan during the summer week day, there's always the Manhattan Project B Reactor in Hanford. They've announced they still have seats on their tours available for you to register for and it's free.

It's only a three hour drive from Spokane and four hours from Sandpoint, but once you arrive to Richland, you get a bus ride to the facility. Cameras are allowed during the tour so you can take all sorts of photos of original equipment and intricate electrical wiring if you're into that sort of thing.

A little background on the B Reactor, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2008 because it's where plutonium-239 was produced for the Manhattan Project.

To sign up, visit the Department of Energy's website. Visitors must be over the age of 12 and don't forget to bring identificiation. 

Editor's Note: Here's a photo gallery I shot a few years ago while on the tour. When we took the tour, we got a plastic green bracelets that says "Manhattan B Reactor". Not sure if they still give those out.
