Governor appoints replacement for retiring Judge Baker

Patrick Monasmith, former Stevens County court commissioner, has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to serve as a Superior Court judge for Stevens, Pend Oreille and Ferry counties.

Last year, Monasmith ran as a democrat for the Stevens County prosecutor race again Tim Rasmussen. He lost 4,710 to 5,986.

Gregoire says she chose him for his legal background which includes private practice.

“Patrick’s broad legal background is exactly what is necessary to effectively serve as Superior Court judge,” Gregoire said. “I welcome Patrick to this position, and know those he works with will appreciate and respect his passion to serve the community.”

Monasmith is replacing judge Rebecca M. Baker, 62, who is retiring October 15th. He'll be joining presiding Judge Allen C. Nielson who says he looks forward to working with Monasmith.

Monasmith is a Colville High School graduate. He later earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho before graduating from the University of Idaho College of Law.
