The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hunting fatality that occurred on November 15th. Deputies responded to a report of gunshot victim near Deer Valley Road in Newport where they found a 16-year-old dead from a single gunshot wound.  


Deputies responded to reports of the gunshot wound at 4pm that day and were directed down a logging trail off of Deer Valley Road. The 16-year-old, identified was about 200 yards off the logging road in the woods. The teen was hunting with family in the area.


The investigation is ongoing and the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Washington State Patrol, U.S Forest Service Law Enforcement and the U.S. Border Patrol.


The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking any information from anyone who may have been hunting in the area on November 15th. If you were in the area please contact the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office at (509) 447-3151.
