Capitol Christmas Trees prepares for national tour

Right after Halloween closes out fall, Washington will kick off the holiday season by harvesting the Capitol Christmas Tree. The 88-foot tall Engelmann Spruce will begin it’s journey to Washington D.C. on Friday morning.

The tree will be harvested from the Newport-Sullivan Lake Ranger District in Pend Oreille County on Friday, November 1st. It will then travel to Newport, it’s host city, for a send off celebration. Celebrations in Downtown Newport will start at 11am with the tree arriving at 2:30pm. Newport will celebrate with live music, carriage rides, kid’s activities and plenty of hot chocolate.

On November 5th the tree will stop in Colville for a morning visit before spending the afternoon in Spokane. The tree will be wrapped for transport, but visitors will be able to catch a glimpse of the tree through a large plexiglass window. The tree will then travel to Republic before heading over the west side of the state.
